New Storefront Illustrations

We’ve been working on the new MegaMac website for quite some time, continuing to refine and improve it even after our launch in February. As part of that process, we took a closer look at the structure of the shop: rethinking our categories, moving products into more intuitive places and making the whole experience feel clearer, easier and more considered.

Historically, most of MegaMac’s imagery has come from the brands we stock – product photography, campaign images and polished renders. Useful, but not especially ownable. MegaMac itself didn’t yet have a visual language that felt distinct. With the new website, we saw an opportunity to change that.

Jonas Zieher, Creative Director at ACRE, our creative partner, observed that tech retail often looks and feels the same: clean, sterile, full of sharp corners and flawless product renders. So he suggested to do something different. Something handmade, drawn and joyful – a visual language you don’t often see in the tech space.

ACRE began looking for illustrators and when we found Yana’s work, we knew immediately she was the right fit.

How Do You Draw an Online Store?

For Yana, this was a bit of a shift. Her usual work is focused on beautiful holiday scenery and landscapes, not tech gear.

Instead of giving her a massive, rigid brief, we started with a simple idea: What if MegaMac wasn’t an online shop, but a real-life store? What would the space look like, and what would the atmosphere feel like?

That was the starting point. We spent about two months working together, going through the illustrations one by one. Yana would start with a digital sketch to be able to move things around – adding a plant here, putting a couple more products on a shelf there, or making a frame feel a bit warmer. Once the visual was locked in, she drew the final versions entirely by hand.

Why We Chose a Real Artist Over AI (And What Came Out of It)

We use AI in some areas of the business – it’s a great tool. But for this project, working with a real person felt important.

We didn’t want the process to be someone sitting alone in front of a computer, endlessly typing prompts. Working with Yana brought real collaboration into the project: zoom calls, bouncing ideas back and forth and using that energy to create something unique.

We believe you can see this human element in the final results. There’s a quirkiness and honesty to them. For example, on the photography category illustration, there’s a tiny bird sitting on the table that someone is taking a picture of. It’s those little details that make it feel charming.

The products we sell are for humans and especially creators, so it felt right to support human creators.
